UK manufacturer opens new factory in hunt for beauty growth

DCS Manufacturing is opening a new UK factory to supply the health and beauty industry with eco-friendly products.

Founded in 2007 as an offshoot of DCS Europe, the distribution company is currently based in Wolverhampton and has achieved sales of over £1m in its first year.

Manufacturing move follows early growth

With an order book for 2009 that has already passed the £2m mark, DCS Manufacturing is planning to move to a new site in Stratford-upon-Avon in February 2009 and create 50 jobs in the process.

The new purpose built 60,000 sq ft factory will distribute health and beauty products in the UK and abroad at a time when many other beauty companies in the UK are scaling down their operations due to the gloomy economic environment.

L’Oreal announced in October that 200 jobs would go at its Talbot Green factory in Wales and only two weeks ago Budelpack COSi went into receivership putting the future of its factory in Maestag, south Wales, in serious doubt.

DCS Manufacturing outlines claims

However, DCS Manufacturing claims to be well placed to weather any economic storms.

Owner Denys Shortt said: “There will always be strong demand for ‘Made in England’ products because Britain represents professionalism and quality.

“The UK supermarket chains have also become very supportive as they try to reduce their carbon footprint and focus on job creation within the UK instead of going to China for everything.”

Shortt established DCS Manufacturing a year ago out of frustration with the lack of UK manufacturers of health and beauty products.

The former England International hockey player intends to fill the gap by developing DCS Manufacturing into a major player with a reputation for quality and sustainability.

He said: “My aim is to produce eco-friendly products in a sustainable way. In the past year we have had to prove we can produce excellent products.

“The proof is in that we are now manufacturing for some major brands. It takes time to build customer confidence but once you get going word of mouth travels fast!”
