Gerresheimer establishes Chinese presence due to demand for glass packaging

Glass and plastic manufacturer Gerresheimer has recognised the development of China as one of the world’s key growth markets and moved quickly to become one of the first choice partners for the Chinese cosmetics industry.

According to market research firm RNCOS, the fragrance segment in China has seen double digit growth over recent years, and Gerresheimer believe it made the right choice to establish its presence in China during the early stages of development.

“Growth in demand for our products from Asian cosmetics manufacturers confirms that we are on to a winning strategy” said Nicolas Balena, sales director for Gerresheimer Momignies and also responsible for Asia.

Glass packaging focus in China

One of the Germany-headquartered company’s seven plants in China specialises exclusively in the production of glass packaging for cosmetics products, and its Chinese subsidiary, Beijing Gerresheimer, will be exhibiting its range of glass packaging products in Peking at Cosmoprof Asia 2010.

“Our commitment to first rate quality is an important aspect of our work. Also, our very broad-based technological expertise means that we can always respond flexibly to customer requirements and needs,” explained An Lihui, sales manager at Beijing Gerresheimer.

The show will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on November 10-12.

The selection of current products on show in Hong Kong, will hopefully provide an insight into the world of glass cosmetics packaging products and a glimpse of tomorrow’s trends, according to Beijing Gerresheimer.

The packaging firm sees it as a good way to display its glass designs and the full range of finishing technologies, from feeder coloring to complete or partial acid etching, hot embossing, coating and color spraying to direct printing on the glass.

Increased significance in fragrance market

Gerresheimer hopes to build on its success in the global cosmetics industry which has seen the production of its glass flacons and bottles establish the firm as a significant player in the fragrance market, highlighted at this year’s Luxe Pack Monaco.

One of these was the flacon for the new fragrance by Columbian pop singer, Shakira, which was launched this September and developed in collaboration with Puig Cosmetics.

Gerresheimer also worked with P&G on its two new fragrances for supermodel Naomi Campbell, and singer Christina Aguilera, producing slim glass bottle designs for both.

“Thanks to the highly specialised techniques that are united under one single roof at Gerresheimer, we can cater to our customer’s individual requirements at all times. The production of packaging products in diverse shapes and colours is one of our company’s strengths,” said Bruno Bürkel, head of the moulded glass division.
