Symrise expands its presence in Latin America

Symrise has announced the opening of its 'Center of Excellence' near São Paulo, which has been in progress over the last twelve months in an effort to strengthen its presence in Latin America.

According to the fragrance and flavour supplier, the center will ultimately strengthen and foster the development of products tailored specifically for the Latin American market while combining R&D work which has until now, been carried out at two different locations.

The company has invested €12 million on the facility, fitting it with energy saving systems and processes for structured waste and recycling management that it says reflects its sustainability ambitions with an advantage of being situated in a growing economy.

Over the last few years we have experienced rapid marked growth and Latin America will remain one of our most important growth regions in the future,” says CEO Dr. Heinz-Jürgen Bertram.

Around 120 staff members from both the Flavor & Nutrition and the Scent & Care divisions are said to be working from the 37,000 m2 site in Granja Viana on the specific needs of Latin American consumers whilst developing new brand concepts.

Brazil is the world’s largest market for perfumes, deodorants and baby care products. The market for hair care products is also growing rapidly in these emerging economies, which is why we have decided to set up our international hair care center at the new location as well,” adds Eder Ramos, Scent & Care regional president.

Achievement

Back in April, Symrise was one of two winners of the 2012 China Personal Care & Cosmetics Innovation Awards at the PCHi trade event.

The ingredients supplier picked up the Most Significant Technology award for its eyelash enhancing properties of its SymPeptide 226EL ingredient, which will be marketed under the SymPeptide XLash name in future.

SymPeptide XLash is the result of a collaborative partnership with Therapeutic Peptides of the US, and is claimed to noticeably strengthen, lengthen and thicken eyelashes in as little as two weeks.

According to Symrise, a recent study carried out on the ingredient showed that with daily use, improved fullness and length was substantiated up to 48 percent in just 14 days.
