The ingredient supplier will officially launch MoistStar HA+ Moisturizing Technology, a novel ingredient that benefits consumers with longer lasting surface skin moisturization, as well as formulators with outstanding ability for cold processing at competitive cost levels, at the upcoming PCHi show in Guangzhou, China next month.
“To meet consumers’ increasing demand for better moisturizing performance from skin care products, more and more formulators are looking for moisturizing ingredients that outperform the commonly used hyaluronic acid (HA) in their skin care products, without adding to the cost of the formulation,” said Sudhir Shenoy, Asia Pacific business director of Dow C & I Solutions.
“Creating MoistStar HA+, allows the Dow Consumer & Industrial Solutions business to help formulators with new solutions that offer improved moisturizing performance, outstanding adaptability to cold processing, easier incorporation in a wide variety of skin care formulations, and competitive price levels in comparison with HA.”
In testing
According to the ingredient supplier, when a gel base lotion containing MoistStar HA+ is tested against another gel base lotion formulated with HA at equivalent levels, the former has demonstrated double the moisturization as the latter in a total of three consecutive rinsing challenges with room temperature water over a period of four and a half hours.
The company also claims that in addition to significantly improving moisturizing performance, the new Technology is a liquid, and therefore easier to handle and incorporate into skin care formulations than Hyaluronic Acid powder.
An independent lab found handling for MoistStar HA+ to be as easy as conventional HA solution.
