Avon invests in new packaging systems to offer 'superior' products
The Mexican division of the cosmetics giant has teamed up with a label system specialist to create a shrink sleeve solution for its lipsticks, mascaras, and eyeliners in an effort to deliver more superior products at a lower overall cost.

According to Avon’s Latin American project engineer Alonso Esquivias; “The quality of the label in terms of appearance and consistency is superior to what we were able to do with our previous process, and compared to other equipment, the Axon applicator delivers higher efficiency at lower overall cost.

"The new system also gave us the opportunity to automate the sleeve application process for lipsticks," he adds.

While Axon, specialists in heated labeling systems as well as other integrated packaging products, says it designed the 'EZ-100H' horizontal shrink sleeve label applicator complete with a hot air tunnel and integrated roller conveyor to offer Avon's customers a more superior product.

'Superior packs'

According to vice president of sales, George Albrecht; "The systems' abilities to accommodate tool-less changeovers between sizes gives customers maximum flexibility."

"This system has been chosen by leading beauty and personal care product companies around the world," he adds.

The vp describes the labeling system as handling various container shapes which enables packagers to purchase and use one machine as opposed to many, and highlights that the system's tool-less changeovers are more beneficial in that they tend to be quicker.

"The EZ-100H is rated between 60 to 70 units per minute with cylindrical product diameters measuring from 9 to 28 mm. Film lay-flat size ranges from 18 to 50 mm," he explains, in an effort to depict the machine's efficency.

Albrecht further highlights that the machine has been designed to accurately apply shrink sleeve labels to small, unstable cylindrical products, such as lipsticks and pencils that are not easily conveyed standing on end.

"The integrated roller conveyor rotates the cylindrical product during the controlled heat shrink process to ensure optimal shrink results."

Axon personnel were said to have been on site at Avon for up to two weeks in an effort to ensure a high level of training and a smooth startup.

According to the US-based manufacturer, this machine is suitable in contract packaging and blow moulding facilities due to its low price and ability to handle multiple container shapes and are designed for use in a variety of industries including various types of personal care and cosmetic packaging styles.
