Oriflame ups its investment in India
Swedish cosmetics maker Oriflame has increased its focus on Asia and India in particular, with plans to launch 200 new products in the region following its acquisition of a manufacturing facility in Uttarakhand.

Oriflame India acquired the manufacturing facility to fulfil the increasing sales demands in India and in Asia, and will look to push out new skin care and fragrance lines in 2013.

"We really believe in the market of India. We are opening more offices here. Also, this year we will be launching 200 new products in the country," said Oriflame India managing director Niklas Frisk.

"By 2016, we want to reach 90 per cent of the population in India, it’s our stated goal," he said; building on Oriflame’s portfolio of 550 products in the country at present, and looking to new market segments too.

Acquisition

This comes after the direct seller had announced the acquisition of a manufacturing facility in Uttarakhand, as it further expands its footprint in Asia.

The new facility covers an area of 61,124 sq ft and is currently under the process of renovation and being upgraded.

"The long term site development plans will enable the facility to supply the majority of the wellness category demand in selected Oriflame markets in the Asian region," said a company statement.

Commitment

Frisk added that the acquisition shows the company's commitment and focus on long term strong growth in India.

"...The India wellness team is working hard to coordinate all aspects of this complex project to ensure that we have a very strong foundation to work with for being able to launch wellness products in the Indian market in the coming years.”

Oriflame markets products across the colour cosmetics, skin care, personal and hair care, and fragrance categories, and states it is looking to open more offices in the country to reach out to customers.
