‘Wow factor’ helping to boost uptake of beauty devices for skin care
‘According to a new report from Diagonal Reports, beauty experts interviewed in the US, China and Europe said that consumers believe that the technology provides ‘red carpert’ standards of skin care to give a much desired ‘wow factor’.
The report also underlines the fact that this category has grown from virtually nothing just a few years ago, into a multi-billion dollar industry, a factor that makes year-on-year growth comparisons ‘quite meaningless because this market did even exist a few years ago’.
Skin care devices deliver ‘immediate results
Besides the prestige of the devices category, the report also outlines the fact that skin care devices often deliver immediate results, especially for primary concerns such as wrinkles and blemishes.
“Technology has democratized beauty outcomes which were previously unaffordable and explains why 70 percent of women would like to own a new beauty device,” the report states.
Likewise, despite the global economic downturn, consumers are still managing to justify the expense of a beauty device because longer-term projections for savings on other beauty products and treatments can make such a purchase justifiable.
Positive online reviews from consumers
In addition to this, largely positive consumer reviews in online forums and through social media, are all helping to further drive interest, thanks to the fact that improvements in technology are helping to raise the bar with respect to efficacy.
The report, entitled 2013 Beauty Device Market, also points to the fact that the Asia-Pacific region is a particularly vibrant market for devices, thanks to a combination of affordability and the fact that the market is less saturated with competitive products.
With respect to the future of the market, the report highlights three significant trends to look out for:
• Devices used in the daily skincare routines will be the most important – cleansing and moisturizing.
• Devices market will divide into niches: the most common skincare problems – teenage acne skin ageing later in life, pigmentation issues, pores, etc.
• Devices that set a higher bar can hit the skincare alternatives – products and procedures in the beauty retail channels and in other channels, such as medical.
