Cosme Tech 2013 platforms a series of new ingredient launches

Last week’s Cosme Tech was the launch pad for a wide range of cosmetic industry launches, from packaging and finished products, to the series of new ingredients highlighted here.

The show floor had a significant area that was dedicated to ingredients manufacturers, most of whom came from the domestic Japanese market, but a selection of which also came from across the Asia Pacific region.

Japan-based I.T.O. launched a range of ten natural mineral powders, aimed at the fast growing market for natural-based and mineral-based colour cosmetic products.

The 100 per cent Ecocert natural cla powders have been based on a concept that is derived from medical cosmetics, and the minerals used in the powders are said to have been sourced globally.

The range has been developed by the company to provide water/moisture retention, improvement of skin elasticity, inhibition of sebum secretion and antioxidation.

Two launches in the mineral colour cosmetics category

Another launch in the mineral powder category also came from a Japanese ingredients player Aizukiritan Corporation, underlining the importance of the mineral cosmetics trend.

Called Kiritan, the charcoal powder is said to consist of an organizational structure that can help to realize high adsorptive properties, a highly desirable quality in the colour cosmetics category, particularly for products used in the eye area.

Japan-based Estpro Company launched a high-grade process that is said to help enable the formulation of surfactant-free cosmetics, something that taps into consumer desires for products that avoid harsher chemicals.

Called Silk Fibroin, the process has been designed around the emulsification of silk, which the manufacturer claims will enable cosmetics to be formulated without surface active agents.

Abalone bio-active collagen ingredient

Finally, Thailand-based Phuket Collagen launched an abalone bio-active collagen product at the show, a marine-based ingredient said to bring a number of important properties to skin care products.

The product is said to stimulate the creation of new skin cell and prevent irritation, as well as regulating elasticity, providing natural moisturisation and activating tissue regeneration.
