UBM Asia adds Malaysia to growing regional events portfolio

UBM Asia has entered a partnership agreement with Interexpo to organise its annual Beauty Expo in Malaysia starting in 2015.

Beauty Expo is said to be the biggest and longest-running industry event of its kind in the country, as well as being the largest trade platform in Southeast Asia for the beauty and wellness categories.

UBM Asia confirmed that the dates for the Beauty Expo event will be 16 – 10 October and that it will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Growing footprint in southeast Asia and India

The addition to UBM Asia’s portfolio builds on a position that is helping it to become the leading events organizer for the industry in Asia.

Last year, the Hong Kong-based subsidiary of London-listed UBM added the AseanBeauty event in Thailand to its portfolio, grouping it with the PhilBeauty event in the Philippines, which it established in 2013, and the Diet and Spa event in Japan, which is co-run with Cosmoprof.

UBM India also announced last month that it was launching its first ever beauty event in the country after it scheduled the Personal Care India Expo 2015, to be held in New Delhi in August.

Targeting event development and growth

“Before becoming an entrepreneur I used to work for UBM,” said Mak Weng Kit, owner and CEO of Interexpo and a 30 year veteran of the Malaysian events industry.

“So it feels like something of a homecoming to be once again working with the company. I am excited about the potential to further grow Beauty Expo in partnership with UBM.”

Southeast Asia has been driving significant growth in the cosmetics and personal care of late, with countries such as the Philippines and Indonesia recording particularly high category spend on the back of increased consumer spending power.
