Innospec sets up new Chinese division
Expanding footprint
After formally registering Innospec Chemical (Beijing) Co Ltd in July, in a recent press release, the company announced that the manufacturer and supplier will begin trading on 1st October 2017. This will, in turn, replace the company’s representative office.
“This is the next step in gradually extending Innospec’s global footprint as the demand for specialty chemicals continues to develop, particularly in China,” said Patrick Williams, President and CEO, Innospec.
Explaining how this will benefit the performance chemicals-based conglomerate, Williams expressed: “We will be able to trade and manage inventory locally. This will enable us to grow our business in this expanding and thriving market.”
Performance chemicals
The performance chemicals side of the business produces innovative technology-based solutions for the personal care sector. The specialty chemicals company focuses on hair cleansing, hair conditioning, skin cleansing, skin care and sun care.
"We are delighted that we will be able to improve our service to customers across all of our businesses in China," added Sean Pang, Regional Director for Innospec in Asia Pacific (APAC).
Chemical development
Specialty chemical production and marketing is an area that has experienced growth, specifically in the Asia-Pacific region.
In 2016, for example, Cosmetics Design Asia reported how Verdezyne, a chemicals manufacturer, had collaborated with Connell Bros, a prominent marketer and distributor in the APAC marketplace to boost the sales and distribution of its beauty and fragrance business arms.
Leading Chinese e-commerce platform, Alibaba, also set up the country’s ‘first big data chemical products R&D laboratory'. In January 2016, the digital marketplace partnered with Shanghai Jahwa, a personal care brand, to build upon the popularity of specialty R&D chemicals in the Chinese and APAC markets.
