The Swiss fine chemicals player is set to make a big splash at this year’s in-cosmetics Global event in Paris, which opens today, with the unveiling of new ingredients and its focus on the diversity in beauty trend.

According to experts at DSM, this is a trend that the company has seen developing rapidly to make it more and more prominent, which is why the company chose to make it the prime focus at this year’s Paris event.

Diversity in beauty is reflected in many of the up and coming trends that are driving the beauty industry and product development right now, and fits in with consumer demands for products that are personalised or tailored to fit their individual requirements.

DSM identifies two sides to beauty diversity

Decision-makers at DSM say they have identified two aspect to beauty diversity, by identifying clear physical differences, as well as differences that are not quite so clear.

The obvious is differences between ethnicity, age, gender and many more, which has given way to products targeting mature skin, the gender neutral and colour cosmetics developed for specific skin tones, for example.

The other aspect is what the DSM experts refer to as the ‘unseen side of beauty’, which applies to aspects of beauty that we do not immediately see, like the skin’s microbiome.

New solutions to target this trend

To answer this trend, the DSM research and development team has been hard at work developing a range of solutions that will help formulators meet these needs, and the team will be at hand at Booth 60, to explain more.

Meanwhile, the company will also be taking part in the Formulation Lab, providing live demonstrations on April 3rd  of its Tilamar Boost 150 ingredient, as well doing a demonstration at Sustainability Corner on April 3rd, to demonstrate its ethically sourced Alpaflor portfolio.

The company will also be participating in the Sensory Bar and Make-up Bar presentation areas, as well as providing innovation boxes to demonstrate its most interesting hair, skin and sun care products.

Another highlight will be a raft of new ingredients and scientific research, which will be focused on the Epibiome Beauty ingredient, focused on skin barrier protection, Parsol ZX Mineral Fuscion – an advanced zinc oxide-based sun care ingredient and Pepha-Age – an ingredient developed to protect against blue light.
