May 31 and June 1 in Barcelona, Spain, the Institute for the Advancement of International Rehabilitation Standards is hosting a second International conference on Genomics and Microbiomics. And Cosmetics Design Editor Deanna Utroske will be there, speaking about the state of the microbiome beauty movement.

“International leaders in rehabilitation, health management, prevention and recovery will discuss the latest findings and recommendations in microbiomics and genomics and their impact on treatments and everybody´s daily life,” explains the AIRS Institute in a media release about the upcoming conference.

Beyond that, the conference program includes expert speakers from a spectrum of other industries, making it a truly interdisciplinary event. “Alongside high leveled academic and scientific experts, the conference also invites the healthy lifestyle and healthy ageing industries from the food, beverage, cosmetics, microbiota, power food, dietary supplement and pharmaceutic sectors to present their latest innovations and new product launches,” according to the event media release.

Beauty & Bacteria
Among the thought leaders and experts speaking about skin care and personal care at this year’s AIRS Conference is Cosmetics Design editor Deanna Utroske. On Friday 31 May at 2pm, in a presentation titled Beauty & Bacteria: The Cosmetics and Personal Care Industry’s New Approach to the Skin Microbiome, she’ll address the work that leading manufacturers have undertaken in the probiotic skin care space; emerging ingredient technologies and new product launches; the growing number of consumer brands selling personal care products that are prebiotic, probiotic, and microbiome friendly; the array of terminology being used to describe, discuss, and market this next generation of beauty products; and much more.

Early data and hypotheses about the multitude of bacteria that lives on human skin are already making sizable waves in the industry, changing ingredient development strategy; product format, function, and benefit claims, and the microbiome will eventually upend beauty as we know it.

Multinational personal care companies as well as innovative startup brands have been doing research on the skin microbiome for years. And, there is a lot more to come.
