VIDEO: Ashland tackles natural and sustainable sun screen concerns with new cellulose-based film former

Ashland has launched its first natural water-resistant film former, which it believes is the keystone to formulating more natural and sustainable sun screens.

Ashland Antaron ECo is made from sustainably-sourced wood-derived cellulose and utilises water-based manufacturing processes.

Launched at in-cosmetics Asia, It is part of Ashland’s initiative to become a more sustainability-focused company.

“In the last few years we've established a sustainability council and have done a tremendous amount of work to a much more sustainable company. [Antaron ECo] is one of our first launches where sustainability was the number one focus for the launch,” said Joe Torella, VP of Skin Care, Ashland.

He told CosmeticsDesign-Asia that Antaron ECo was a crucial launch for the company as it offers an effective and sustainable solution to formulating sun screens.

“People now want everything, and they want it yesterday. The importance of creating a more sustainable [sun screen] is so high with all the concerns over reef safety, micro-plastics, personal health… we couldn’t wait to launch this product. We needed formulators to have this now.”
