The Fountain Awards by Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients (PCHi) awards 17 winners across 13 beauty categories to celebrate industry innovation.

The winners of the Fountain Awards were announced on March 20 in Shanghai, China.

This year, the awards received a total of 221 product submissions and applications from 20 engineers, a 40% increase from the previous year.

Anti-ageing emerged as the category with the highest number of submissions.

First-time exhibitor Suni Technology from Guangzhou walked away with the coveted prize with its new ingredient, Suni Jinsenoside F2.

The anti-ageing ingredient is derived from ginseng – a prized herb associated with longevity.

According to Vicky Li, supply chain general manager, the product has been proven to be a better alternative to retinol without the side effects that are commonly associated with the latter.

The panel of judges included R&D executives from leading domestic and international brands such as Beiersdorf, Estée Lauder, Inoherb, L'Oréal, and Procter & Gamble.

Li told CosmeticsDesign-Asia that the firm was “happy and excited” that its ingredient received recognition from such an esteemed panel.

According to the organisers, submissions for four other categories – sensitive skin and acne, skin whitening and brightening, skin barrier repair, and sensory enhancement – all experienced significant growth.

Notably, it observed a surge in submissions of emulsion stabilisation products, which have surged by 266% compared to the previous edition.

Shan Godbille, head of strategic and operational marketing at Givaudan Active Beauty, told us that the awards were growing in relevance within the industry.

The firm’s Vitachelox was a nominated finalist in the anti-pollution category.

“The PCHi Fountain Awards are of high importance to us. We believe its importance is growing year after year. We take it very seriously to prepare our submissions... It’s a lot of work but it’s worth it,” said Godbille.

At the end of the night, Givaudan’s Cloe Boira walked away with a Best Newcomer award alongside JAKA Biotech's Lidan Zhou.
