C-beauty major Perfect Diary has launched the second-generation version of bionic film technology and applied it to a new skin care range and lipstick.

Parent company Yatsen Holdings recently held an event to announce its new and improved film former, Biotec.

According to Cheng Jing, chief scientific offer of Yatsen Group, the new technology “activates the regeneration of myogenic stem cells to achieve all-round anti-ageing of the skin”.

“Based on the latest research results of skin stem cells and the physiological characteristics of lip skin, Perfect Diary uses a second-generation pomegranate peptide complex combined with biotechnology to bring the second-generation Biotec technology to activate myogenic stem cells and fight against ageing from all dimensions from the epidermis, basal layer and dermis,” she explained.

The company said Biotec was the result of the cooperation of 23 scientific research institutions and 42 scientists.

The firm co-authored a paper with Sun Yat Sen University and it was published in Nature Medicine and Science Bulletin.

“This not only anchored a new idea for the future global skin anti-ageing proposition, but also set a new milestone for the development of functional cosmetics,” it said in a press statement.

Perfecting perfect

The second-generational film technology was applied to Perfect Diary’s upgraded Biolip Essence Lipstick.

The original Biolip Essence Lipstick was launch in 2023.

By activating the myogenic stem cells, the lipstick formula improves the overall condition of the lips “from the root” and offers firming and plumping effects while maintaining a rich colour application.

The latest iteration claims to be able to reduce lip wrinkles by 48.08% in one day.

According to the firm, these results were verified by Ruijin Hospital, a university hospital associated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s School of Medicine, as well as SGS, an international testing company.

Previously, the first-generation technology claimed to reduce wrinkles by 53.39% in two weeks.

Additionally, the brand launched a new five-piece collection featuring this new technology.

It applied the technology to a facial cream, eye cream, essence water, face mask, and eye mask.

This is the first time it has applied this Biotec to skin care.

According to Perfect Diary, these new developments are the start of its journey to explore to possibility of integrating makeup and skin care.

“Perfect Diary will adhere to the concept of makeup and skin care in one led by technology, and continue to launch more high quality, efficient and innovative beauty products, opening a new journey for consumers that emphasises both makeup and skin care.”

These latest developments highlight the firm’s focus on R&D.

According to founder, chairman and chief executive Huang Jinfeng, Yatsen has invested more than RMB500m since 2020.

Last year, it established Yatsen Biotech, a facility integrating R&D, manufacturing, and quality control.

This year, the firm invested in a Global Innovation and R&D Centre to complement existing R&D facilities in Guangzhou and Toulouse.
