South Korean derma skin care brand Cell Fusion C has hopped on the trend of K-beauty brands venturing into the dietary supplements space, particularly the beauty-from-within category, with its recent launch of “edible sun care” products.

Since its inception in 2001, Cell Fusion C has focused on improving troubled skin, and developing products that are safe for sensitive skin and protective against external stimuli, including ultraviolet (UV) rays and fine dust.

Specialising in post-treatment skin care and sun care products, the brand’s goal is to make feel consumers “skin confident” from the inside out.

This emphasis on inner beauty has led to the introduction of its first health functional products, namely Cell Fusion C UV Care Formula Jelly and Cell Fusion C UV Care Formula Powder, which are targeted at addressing skin damage caused by ultraviolet (UV) rays.

Specifically, UV Care Formula Jelly contains 1000mg of a 100% locally produced ingredient called Agatri. The patented plant extract is derived from Korean mint (Agastache rugosa), a raw material that is used in traditional oriental medicine.

It is said to help reduce inflammation and wrinkles caused by sun damage, and increase collagen and hyaluronic acid synthesis to improve skin hydration and elasticity.

In addition, it decreases transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are factors contributing to skin ageing.

“Cell Fusion C UV Care Formula Jelly is a health functional food approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) for its dual functionality in alleviating skin health that has been impaired by UV rays, and in moisturising the skin.

“Only needed to be taken once a day without water, the grapefruit-flavoured jelly enables consumers to conveniently perform sun care anytime and at any location,” the brand said.

On the other hand, UV Care Formula Powder comprises a premium patented collagen called Naticol BPMG.

Produced from fish skin through an enzymatic hydrolysis process, the collagen peptide has a low molecular weight, which facilitates absorption, and is claimed to boost skin elasticity and moisturisation while protecting the skin against UV rays.

The ingredient is certified halal and kosher, and is recognised by international safety and quality standards.

The powder supplement comes in a lemon flavour and can be taken directly or mixed with liquids, such as carbonated water, in a dosage of one packet a day.

It has also been approved by the MFDS as a health functional food.

“The newly released products allow for easy UV care even in the midst of a busy daily schedule. We hope that consumers can maintain healthy skin through our comprehensive [ingestible and topical] sun care range.”

In the first phase of launch, the two supplements are only available on Cell Fusion C’s official Korean website, with several ongoing promotions, such as gift with purchase and review rewards, to commemorate it.

The brand’s skin care products are sold via e-commerce platform Amazon in the US, Qoo10 in Japan, Shopee in Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines and Taiwan, and beauty retailer Sa Sa in Hong Kong and Malaysia.
