According to Lyndal Linkin, founder and CEO, the country’s environment presents some of the toughest challenges for skin health and demands skin care that goes beyond the basics.
“Australia has some of the highest ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels in the world due to its geographical location, clear skies, and proximity to the ozone layer’s thinning region. This constant exposure contributes to sunburn, pigmentation, premature ageing, and a higher risk of skin cancer. No other country experiences this level of UV intensity year-round.
“Large portions of Australia are dominated by arid and semi-arid conditions, with extremely low humidity that saps the skin of moisture. These environments leave the skin prone to cracking, irritation, and accelerated ageing. The combination of heat, dryness, and strong winds intensifies skin dehydration,” she told CosmeticsDesign-Asia.
Furthermore, the expanse of coastal living as well as highly variable climate conditions in different parts of the country create a host of skin issues. In urban cities like Sydney and Melbourne, the population is also facing increasing levels of pollution.
“The environmental stressors that cause bushfires and dust storms are unique Australian challenges that worsen skin inflammation and damage.”
To tackle these challenges, AIJAN spent four years to develop its Efficacy Cream, undergoing a rigorous process of R&D, formulation, clinical testing, patent application, and sustainable packaging design.
“Many skin care products overlook the unique needs of Australians, especially with our harsh climate and high UV exposure. Finding a powerful, single-step formula tailored for Aussie skin was always going to take time and a lot of research.”
The cream’s key ingredients are AIJAN’s patented BMPC (Bioavailability of Molecular & Phyto Compounds) complex and Australian desert saltbush.
Specifically, the BMPC complex is a proprietary blend of naturally derived and scientifically advanced ingredients, including bioactive peptides, antioxidants and vitamins, targeted at six key aspects of skin ageing.
These are namely fine lines and wrinkles, skin elasticity and firmness, hydration and plumpness, skin tone and hyperpigmentation, skin barrier function, and protection against environmental stressors.
The complex is designed to penetrate directly to the skin’s deeper layers. This increased bioavailability enables the active ingredients to work at the cellular level to repair damaged skin cells and accelerate cell regeneration for a healthier- and vibrant-looking complexion.
In addition, bioactive peptides stimulate collagen production, helping to restore skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while antioxidants neutralise free radicals, improving the skin’s resilience against external aggressors like UV rays and pollution that cause premature ageing.
The complex also claims to strengthen the skin’s lipid barrier, which enhances moisture retention and brings about long-lasting hydration and a plump, smooth appearance.
Known for its ability to thrive in extreme conditions and nutrient-poor soils, Australian desert saltbush has been valued for centuries by Indigenous Australians as both a vital source of nourishment and a remedy for its medicinal qualities.
It is packed with minerals that offer multi-faceted benefits for the skin, including zinc and magnesium to boost elasticity and firmness, and calcium and selenium to protect against moisture loss and fortify the skin barrier.
Other ingredients include sandalwood seed oil, multi-molecular weight hyaluronic acid, osmolytes, ectoin, neuro peptides, acetyl hexapeptide-8, L-22 lipid complex, beta-carotene, and vitamins B, C and E.
“This comprehensive blend of active ingredients and Australian native botanicals ensures that the Efficacy Cream not only hydrates but also repairs, protects, and rejuvenates the skin at every level, making it a truly multifunctional powerhouse for all skin types.”
Streamlining routines, maximising results
By having multiple functions in one product, the Efficacy Cream is a time-saving and convenient solution that caters to modern lifestyle.
“In today’s fast-paced world, lengthy skin care routines can feel overwhelming. Streamlining the routine into one high-quality, multifunctional product encourages regular use and delivers more consistent effects over time. It also alleviates decision-making and raises cost-effectiveness, as users get better value for money while achieving their desired results.
“Additionally, combining multiple benefits in one product ensures the skin receives a well-rounded treatment, whereas using too many products can dilute effectiveness and overload the skin, leading to irritation or clogged pores. A single-step solution eliminates the need for unnecessary products, focusing on what the skin truly needs for optimal performance.”
Fewer products also mean less packaging and reduced environmental impact, aligning with the growing importance of sustainable and responsible consumption.
Nevertheless, Linkin revealed that the brand is working on the expansion of its line-up powered by the BMPC complex to address specific skin needs.
For example, Advanced Repair Serum is a lightweight, fast-absorbing serum that delivers a concentrated dose of BMPC complex into the skin’s deeper layers via encapsulated micro-droplets.
Said to be the most requested item by existing customers, Purifying Cleanser is a gel-to-foam cleanser that removes impurities and makeup without stripping essential moisture and prepares the skin for optimal absorption of active ingredients.
The Rejuvenating Eye Cream is a gentle yet potent product to reduce puffiness and dark circles, firm and lift the skin around the eyes, and smooth crow’s feet. Its cooling metal applicator allows for precise application and enhanced de-puffing effect.
Also in the pipeline are Hydrating Body Cream, Calming Vitamin A, and Restorative Night Cream, which utilises time-release technology for increased bioavailability and prolonged delivery of active ingredients throughout the night.
“By incorporating innovative delivery systems, such as encapsulated actives, time-release formulations and targeted applicators, every product is aimed at providing maximum efficacy and an elevated skin care experience.
“These new additions also reinforce AIJAN’s commitment to simplifying routines with high-performance, multifunctional solutions. Together, they create a complete skin care system that transforms the way consumers care for their skin, addressing every need from cleansing to targeted treatment and overall hydration.”
The cleanser, serum and eye cream are slated to launch in Q3 this year, and the body cream and night cream are expected to be released by Q2 of 2026.
AIJAN currently offers free international shipping for purchases on its website, while it actively seeks partnerships with overseas distributors specialising in the premium skin care market to extend its reach beyond Australian shores.
